The occupants of the property in Murray Road were in their bedroom at about 10.45pm on Saturday when they were disturbed by a man shining a torch. He claimed to have seen some suspicious people outside the house and said he had come in to investigate.

The man was taken downstairs by the occupant and he walked off, saying he was going to try to find his friend, with whom he had been walking his dog. Glass in a door was found to have been smashed, and a handbag had been stolen.

The bag was later recovered in a park opposite Murray Road.

The man is described as white, in his mid 20s, of slim build and just under 6ft.

He had short dark hair and a tattoo on the left side of his lower neck. He spoke with a Geordie or Scottish accent and was wearing a navy blue top or coat, dark jeans and white trainers. He carried a small torch which shone a blueish light.

Officers want to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area between 9.30pm and 11pm Saturday, or anyone who saw the man in the area. Call DS Matt Little at Ipswich CID on 101.

  • Obviously there must have been something odd, perhaps the occupants were elderly and confused as there is no way you would let an intruder get away. Now where do I keep that piece of 2" x 2".
