PARENTS have been warned to be vigilant after reports that a man in a van has been approaching children outside primary schools in Ipswich.
Suffolk Police has warned primary schools in Ipswich to be alert following information about a van driving near to schools and a man asking schoolchildren to get in.
Britannia Primary School posted a notice on its website warning parents about the potential threat to pupils’ safety.
The notice reads: “We have been advised by the local police that there is a van driving near to local primary schools, with two occupants, asking children to get into the vehicle.
“Please could we request that all children are collected from school at the end of the day and after school clubs until we have been advised that this situation has been dealt with by the police.”
A spokesman for Suffolk Police said there had not been any reported incidents of accostings and the warning was a precaution.
He said: “Suffolk Police received information that a man in a van has been approaching children near to schools in Ipswich and asking them to go with him.
“At this stage we have no other information to corroborate this but we are investigating the report and as a precautionary measure are asking schools and parents to remain vigilant.”
