Ipswich: Planners are “credit to borough” say Waitrose/John Lewis store developers

Developers working on a major new retail and business park in Ipswich have praised planners as “a credit to the borough” after their Waitrose/John Lewis at home scheme was turned around in record time.

Tony Chambers, chairman of Futura Park owners AquiGen, thanked Ipswich Borough Council’s officer for the role they played in keeping the project, on the former Crane engineering site at Nacton, on track.

An initial store opening deadline was brought forward to Thursday of this week enabling the retailers to get in in time for the Christmas rush.

“The planning officers at IBC created a specific planning policy to allow the regeneration of this site by suggesting that a retail development would create the value to enable the whole site to be completely demolished and remediated,” said Mr Chambers

“The management of the AquiGen planning application by the officers was undertaken in the utmost professional manner.

“They are a credit to the Borough. Once the application was approved by the members the officers made every effort to assist the delivery the project and opening of the Waitrose and John Lewis Store in record time.”

  • For your information 'Mr Brock' I've had the misfortune to live in this town for 56 years and DON'T go around with my eyes shut like you! I also get out and about and visit many other towns & cities and this emphasises to me just how bad this town has become in recent years, so I suggest you do the same and you might learn something!!

  • That's easy for them to say, they don't have to try and drive past it at hush hour every day!

  • Yes planeman I'm loaded I was born into a council house in chantry and my dad was a digger driver and my mum worked in the co-op. That's how "loaded" i am. You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. I don't believe i am right I believe I am fair. I give Ipswich a chance. This forum is unfortunately a magnet for negative people who are guilty of bringing the town down with their endless criticism. Some of it is fair, but most of it would apply to any town or city in the country. It must be a depressing life to only dwell on the negative all the time

  • Moan when there's no John Lewis, oan when there is one. Do you think the heavy traffuc might just die down once the initial bizz and excitment has subsided perhaps?

  • @planeman - If you hate it that much why don't you move? FYI I've lived in many places, I even work in London. So i think I get out and about enough to see how different it is in other town's and cities, and just how comparable Ipswich actually is. I never said it was perfect, but it has way more going for it, than the endless negative remarks people make about it

  • The reason I don't move is that unlike you it seams as I'm not loaded and can't arrord to move! The fact that, according to you, everyone is negative in their comments apart from you, should actually tell you something or is it you are arrogant enough to think your'e the only one who is right. WAKE UP & SMELL THE COFFEE!!!

  • They would say that wouldn't they? They don't actually have to live here and put up with all the chaos they've managed to create for those of us unfortunate enough to do so!

  • @planeman - no i do not work for the council. I love my hometown and want it to succeed which is why i try to be postive instead of always being negative. You should try it. And to note another article on star site today confirms a second road with provide access to futura park which will help with traffic. So there, sorted. Now stop moaning!

  • Why is it that Scott Brock cannot see what everyone else can? I can only assume he is actually an alias used by Ipswich Central or IBC as he clearly only looks at things through rose colured glasses and refuses to face the facts!!
