A police helicopter was last night seen circling the skies above Ipswich following reports of an incident at a bowls club.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said police were called to reports of someone jumping over the fence at a bowls club near Parkside Avenue at about 9.50pm.

No one had be found as of 10.45pm.

  • Judging as to whether this was a waste of money on such a short, uninformative article is not wise.

  • Police helicopter for a fence jumper seems a bit over the top to put it mildly. What about all the things we did as kids in the sixties and seventies scrumping apples, playing on building sites, drinking underage probaly get life imprisonment nowadays.

  • This just about sums up the quality of policing. It is too easy for them to call upon this resource instead of breaking into a sweat laying chase on foot.

  • There was of course the time several years ago when a photographer went up in the helicopter to get a picture of snow-covered Suffolk for the force's official Christmas card.........

  • You can see why there needs to be cuts to police spending and funding when they waste money in ridiculous ways like this.
