Suffolk police are recommending Ipswich Town’s derby clash with Norwich City in August should be played on a Saturday lunchtime, it can be revealed.
The force held a meeting today with partner agencies, including representatives from the Blues, to discuss the fixture after it was earlier proposed the fixture be played on Sunday, August 24.
Assistant chief constable for Suffolk police, David Skevington, said the meeting looked at all the issues surrounding the clash, including rail works planned for the 24th, which would have made travel difficult for Canaries fans.
Mr Skevington said the force would now recommend the game be played on Saturday, August 23, with a kick-off time of 12.15pm.
The proposed fixture shift had caused some controversy, particularly among fans of both clubs.
Mr Skevington said: “We have listened to the views of fans as well. That is important to us.”
The recommendation will now be sent to the league before a final decision is made.
