YOUNG children have been left upset after milk thieves struck on four occasions, stealing more than 70 pints from the school’s doorstep.

Thieves have struck at Handford Hall Primary School in Gatacre Road, taking freshly delivered milk on all four occasions.

Headteacher Kasha Blake said the most recent theft happened last Monday when 44 pints of semi-skimmed milk, worth about £30, was stolen from the school’s doorstep at around 5am.

She said: “What’s really upsetting is we had 44 pints of milk for nursery and reception children and it was all taken. It wasn’t only a few pints. This is something the children have every single day and it’s very upsetting.

“We’ve got CCTV footage that shows the milkman delivering the milk and within a few minutes it’s been taken by someone in a hoodie.”

Suffolk police confirmed the thefts had been reported but said that so far the culprits had not been caught.

Another theft happened between 4.55am and 8.30am on January 24. The other two thefts happened last summer.

A spokeswoman said: “Officers are giving suitable advice on moving the place the milk is delivered and stored.”

Witnesses should contact Pcso Mark Narramore on 101.

  • "...In a hoodie" - Oh dear - that's gonna make it hard to catch the thief...99% of the population under 60 in that area wear them - it's like a low-slung trousered Franciscan monastery for clones. Used to be baseball caps and shellsuits of course in the old days what with Chantry and Dickens road being nearby.
