Staff at the Heath Road site have asked family and friends to call before they visit to minimise the risk of spreading the infection.

The affected wards are Claydon – a cardiac ward, Debenham – a cardiac rehab and endocrine/diabetes ward, Kesgrave – a medical ward and Needham which cares for patients with musclo-skeletal and rheumatological disorders.

Siobhan Jordan, director of
nursing and quality, said: “We need everyone’s help to limit the spread of all infections.

“At the moment the numbers of patients and staff affected is
thankfully very small. We are taking immediate steps to limit the
possibility of the infection spreading.

“I would ask everyone who plans to visit any of the four wards to ring before they set off. I would also strongly urge any visitor who feels unwell themselves, or has been in contact with someone with a sickness bug very recently, not to come to the hospital.

“We are asking all visitors on arrival to wash their hands with soap and water, before entering and on leaving clinical areas.

“I would like to advise any visitors who may be more at risk than others of picking up a bug, for example young children, not to visit until
further notice. I do apologise for any inconvenience.”

A spokeswoman for the hospital said the bug has not been confirmed as norovirus.

She explained the wards are only closed to new admissions and patients currently on the wards will not be moved.

To contact the wards call
Claydon on 01473 702300, Debenham on 01473 702313, Kesgrave on 01473 702710 or Needham on 01473 702231.

  • my daughter was admitted to childrens ward on sat on mon both me and my husband came down with the bug and only now 72 hrs later do we feel a little human again,it has gone through 2 of our other 3 children as well as my parents,my daughter was discharged as we were unable to look after her properly and obviously didnt want to spread it further.im not saying that is where we caught it but its a coincidence, the nurses were fantastic in the care that they gave to us all.
