Five squatters have been thrown out of an Ipswich town centre building after they were discovered playing cards.
Police were called to the former premises of Lockdale’s auctioneers in Upper Orwell Street after a member of staff went to the property and reportedly found the men in the middle of a game of three-card brag.
The auctioneer is now based at Barrack Square in Martlesham, but still has the use of its old shop.
A worker was startled to find five men who appeared to have been living there when they went to the property.
Anne-Marie Breach, a spokeswoman for Suffolk Constabulary, said: “We were called to an empty property owned by Lockdales in Upper Orwell Street, Ipswich, at 11.51am on Saturday, September 21.
“People who were unknown to staff were on the premises at the time. As a result the five people found in a flat were ejected.”
The quintet were aged, 38, 41, 44, 48, and 62.
Police said although an officer spoke to those involved no one was arrested as they agreed to leave.
