A MAN who was found stabbed outside the YMCA last night is believed to be the victim of a targeted attack.

Police were called at 7.10pm yesterday to reports that a man had received stab wounds to his legs and one to his back during an incident in Anglesea Road.

The man, who is in his 30s, was approached by two men who attacked him and demanded money.

Two men were seen getting into a white van after the incident and drove off in the direction of Waterloo Road.

The man was taken to Ipswich Hospital but he has now back at home. Ambulance chiefs say the man was found near the YMCA in Wellington Street.

A police spokesman said: “Following initial enquiries police believe that this was a targeted attack.”

Officers are now appealing for help from the public in tracing the men.

The first man is described as black, about 6ft tall, no older than 25, of slight to medium build and with a slight moustache – he was wearing dark clothes.

The second man is described as white, about 5ft 8-9ins tall, with short brown spiky hair, wearing black clothes with a light coloured shirt under his jacket.

If you saw anything or have any information, call Ipswich CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

  • It was a targeted attack? This suggests the attackers knew their victim. Therefore I presume that the victim knew his attackers. So why have the police released a description and said that they are searching for these unknown yobs? Surely they have their names given to them by the victim? Or is the victim doing the "no comment" bit? A bit of clarity on this point would be welcome. Or do we just guess?
