BERATING a police officer after consuming too much alcohol while celebrating his birthday has cost Omar Davis more than £100.

Davis pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Ipswich when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court.

Prosecutor Robert Sadd told the court a police officer saw Davis urinating in Silent Street at around 12.15am on December 7 – the day of his his 24th birthday.

The former soldier was said to have been drunk. The officer attempted to issue him with a Section 27 notice which orders someone to leave the area.

However, Davis repeatedly swore at the police officer despite being given every chance to go away and was eventually arrested.

Mr Sadd said Davis had previous convictions for threatening behaviour, resisting arrest, and failure to answer bail in 2008 for which he had been fined £750 and ordered to pay £75 costs.

In 2010 he was given a community order and a restraining order after being convicted for battery.

Davis, representing himself, said he could not recall too much of what had happened when he was arrested in Silent Street.

He told the court: “It was my birthday. I went out for a few drinks. Obviously I drank more than I should have. I really don’t remember anything I said but it must be true. My mind is completely blank.”

Davis was fined £50 and ordered to pay £50 costs as well as a £20 victim surcharge.
