MOTORISTS will have to find an alternative route while improvements are made to an Ipswich road.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

The Travel Ipswich improvement works scheme will see Portman Road and Princes Street south temporarily closed on Friday and Monday to Wednesday.

There will be no vehicular access from Princes Street into Portman Road and a diversion will be put in place.

Access for residents and businesses will be from the junction of Handford Road with Portman Road or from Sir Alf Ramsey Way onto Portman Road.

Anyone with questions about the works should call the 24-hour Skanska Customer Service Team on 0800 066 5006.

  • Good graphic there Evening Star. I've often wondered what traffic looks like! Surely you could use better graphics than the one in this article. Pretty lazy journalism from you here.

  • Can the Evening Star get a freedom of information request relating to roadworks and said improvements? Why do they think these things are improvements? Did they get a bulk discount on traffic lights? What the heck is their reasoning for ruining the transport network of Ipswich?

  • Minimat, I think you'll probably find that the council chiefs are well aware of the gridlock coming to the area. How else are they going to justify introducing some form of congestion charge in the future? There are more ludicrous changes yet to come. The decision to make Lower Brook Street one way would be OK if the direction was FROM Star Lane TO Upper Brook Street. However, "Travel Ipswich" have deiceded that they want to make it go in the other direction, towards Star Lane, funnelling it in to the traffic that will already be trying to get out of Foundation Street. It's bad enough trying to get out of that junction at the best of times on a good day, and the proposed one way direction will make it virtually impossible.

  • The travel ipswich website states 'there will be a temporary road closure at one end of Portman Road from Mon 29 October through to Monday 19 November'. I would suggest if you're going to publish a story, you check the facts?

  • I like the way this work keeps being descibed as an improvement when everyone agrees that there were rarely any problems here in the first place, seems the only people who cant see the gridlock coming in this area are the council chiefs.
