Ipswich Town: More goodwill from Tyrone Mings as fans receive new number three shirt

An Ipswich Town defender has given away shirts to fans in another kind gesture.

Town fans Tom Pullen and Glenn Parker had purchased a new Ipswich shirt for the upcoming season with Tyrone Mings’ name on, with the number 15 he wore last season.

However, his squad number was changed to number three on Monday, meaning the number no longer matched for this season. Following tweets to Mings, 21, he responded to the pair, promising to get them a shirt with the new number.

He tweeted Mr Parker saying: “new shirt with 3 on the back is on it’s way to you” and tweeted Mr Pullen asking for his size, and that he’d get the newly printed shirt sent out to him.

This is the second gesture he has made towards fans, after getting two tickets for a fan who couldn’t afford a game in March 2013.

Steve Pearce, ITFC media manager, said: “That will be the last time Tyrone announces his squad number before the manager then! Seriously though, it’s a nice gesture from Ty and one I’m sure the fans concerned appreciate.”

  • I'd imagine that the considerate and well-mannered Mr Mings can kick a ball. Otherwise he would earn his living in an occupation that didn't demand this capacity of its operatives.

  • He is rapidly becoming one of my all-time favourite Town players. His human decency and generosity are a rare thing in the modern game and he should be warmly applauded for it.

In the Middle Ages Ipswich was not without schools, there is firm evidence of a grammar school as early as 1477 and probably as far back as 1399. This school received its Charter from Queen Elizabeth I in 1566 and went through a number of guises before it became, what is now, Ipswich School. The school buildings are on Henley Road but have previously been in Foundation Street and Blackfriars Monastery.
