Ipswich: Two-car crash at junction of Bramford Road and Chevallier Street

00:30 21 February 2014

Archant

One person has suffered potentially serious spinal injuries after two cars were involved in an accident at an Ipswich junction.

The crash happened at about 11.45pm on Thursday at the junction of Bramford road and Chevallier Street/Yarmouth Road and the crossroads was closed to traffic in all directions while the scene was investigated.

A police spokesman said the crash, which involved a Peugeot and a Seat Ibiza, happened at the traffic lights and it appeared that one of the vehicles had driven into the side of the other.

He said: “Three people were involved - one in one vehicle and two in the other and a lady has got what are believed to be spinal injuries.

“If anybody who may have seen something and has not already given their details to police, we ask that they call 101 and quote CAD472.”

Ambulance crews were also at the scene of the accident.

  • I have been wondering how long it would be before this happened. It may not be this that caused the accident BUT there are so many near misses I see there when I am coming from Bramford road turning right into Yarmouth road. When the lights change the cars in Yarmouth road are queuing too far back for the drivers coming down from Bramford road (from the town centre) The cars that are queued to turn right into Bramford road going into town then pull forward just as the lights change, right into the path of those cars. There needs to be a few seconds more delay in the change of lights or it will happen again.
