Visitors to Felixstowe seafront are being warned to keep off a section of beach following some severe and sudden erosion.

Suffolk Coastal is asking people to keep off a small section of the beach in front of the beach huts.

A council spokesman said: “The recent adverse weather conditions have swept away a large proportion of the beach on the seafront immediately in front of the Spa Pavilion building, leaving a steep drop from the normal beach level to the sea.

“Local people have reported the situation to the council, highlighting the potential danger to people using this section of the beach. As such, Suffolk Coastal has arranged for signs to be put up, warning people not to use the beach.

It is hoped that the beach may naturally rebuild in the coming weeks. During this time, the council will continue to monitor the situation in order to assess whether further action needs to be taken.”

The owners of beach huts in this section of the seafront have been informed about the situation and been advised not to use their beach huts at this time.

  • Goodness. doesn't look good. Don't we love to moan in Felixstow? It's clearly unsafe - do they want them damaged or floating away causing obstructions? get real - maybe those who are moaning should put themselves up for election next time and make a difference.

  • I would imagine that TJ Hawort clot will invent a new charge for these particular beach huts for being closer to the sea with a better view, how about another shall we say £2000 annually!

  • How about suffolk coastal gets off their power trip and allows people to make their own decisions if to go near a two foot drop into soft sand. Too many power-crazed insects and lifestyle na'zis at suffolk coastal with nothing better to do than issue some bogus warning and grab some media attention.
