A partner at an accountancy firm with branches in Suffolk and Norfolk has been warned he could be jailed when he is sentenced next month after admitting offences of fraud involving £24,000.

Adam Clarke, 31, of Masterson Grove, Kesgrave, pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court to seven offences of fraud between November 2010 and May 2013.

Adjourning sentence until next month for a pre-sentence report, Judge David Goodin told Clarke the offences he had admitted were a “multiple breach of trust” and said a prison sentence was “inevitable”.

However he said it might be possible for the prison sentence to be suspended and asked for the pre-sentence report to consider all sentencing options. “It is right that every avenue should be explored,” said the judge.

Clarke worked in the business recovery department of Larking Gowen and
following his arrest last year the accountancy firm insisted it was business as usual after confirming it had parted company with him in the wake of a fraud investigation.

In a statement in July last year Larking Gowen managing partner Jon Woolston said: “Larking Gowen can confirm that Adam Clarke is no longer a partner.

“This follows what appears to be evidence of professional misconduct leading us to contact the relevant regulatory authorities.

“Mr Clarke worked in a highly specialised part of the firm mainly handling company insolvencies and had no dealings with any of our other clients. It is very much business as normal at Larking Gowen and given the circumstances we will be making no further comment on the matter.”
