A group of women are planning to repeat a 50km cycle ride to raise money for charity in memory of a soldier who was killed in action four years ago while he was serving in Afghanistan.

Last year, the ‘Birds Wot Bike’ amateur cyclists raised more than £2,640 for Help For Heroes via the challenge.

The ride was a tribute to 26-year-old Lavenham man Lance-Corporal of Horse Jo Woodgate, who was killed in March 2010 by an insurgent’s grenade while on foot patrol near Sangin.

This year, cyclists are being asked to join the charity ride on Sunday, April 6, which starts at The George pub in Hadleigh at 10am.

Participants can opt to follow the same 50km route or challenge themselves further with a 70km circuit. L/CoH Woodgate’s father, Tony, will set the cyclists on their way. Entry is £10 including post-ride food.

Email hadleighheroesride@outlook.com to enter, or register by 9.30am on the day.
