The lucky 26-year-old saw games at Blackburn Rovers, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham all go his way with nail-biting finishes - but he still had to watch Spurs battle from behind on Sunday to seal his win.

The late-swing matches kicked off on Saturday, and saw Reading beat Blackburn 3-2 in the 92nd minute, Leeds win against Brentford 1-0 in the 89th minute, Sheffield Wednesday beat Rotherham United 1-0 after a disputed penalty in the 94th minute and Brighton claim victory over Birmingham 2-1 in the 94th minute.

After cashing in his winnings the luckiest man in Suffolk told staff at betting company BetVictor he would buy bigger Christmas presents, pay off some of his mortgage and will also splash out on some new cars.

And his parents are also in for a Christmas to remember with the man pledging to treat them with a windfall of their own.

Charlie McCann, of BetVictor, said: “Christmas has certainly come early for our young customer who has won a life-changing amount of money for a fiver.

“What a journey it was with no less than four of his Championship selections scoring late, late winners on Saturday. Lady Luck was certainly shining on him and we have never seen fortune quite like it.

“When Brighton missed a penalty at Loftus Road yesterday, or when Burnley took the lead at White Hart Lane, he may have thought his luck had finally run out, but some things are meant to be.”

On top of his initial winnings, the punter was paid an additional £15,405.14 as part of BetVictor’s ongoing price promise concession, which gives customers the difference in cash if they would have won more with a competitor.

Mr McCann added: “This was one of those once-in-a-lifetime wins and we wish him the best of luck – not that he appears to need it.”
