Police have had initial tests on human bone found in an Ufford park come back as inconclusive.

The bone was found in the wooded area between the B1438 and The Avenue/Parklands by specialist officers as part of Suffolk Police’s inquiry into the disappearance of 19-year-old Luke, from Hollesley, near Woodbridge.

A police cordon remains in place.

The initial tests on the bone have proved inconclusive and further, more detailed, testing is to be carried out to establish if the origin of the bone can be identified.

Detective Superintendent John Brocklebank from the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team, who instigated the initial searches as part of the investigation into the disappearance of Luke said: “I would like to thank everyone living in the area who use the woods to walk their dogs, play with their children etc, for their continued patience.

“Until such time as we have a result from the forensic testing of the bone I am reluctant to lift the cordon in case any more searching at the site needs to be carried out, post identification.

Luke went missing in May 2006 and was known to frequent the wood.

Police Det Supt Brocklebank had previously said that the site in Ufford was either a First World War or Second World War barracks and also a landfill site indicating that there may easily be an innocent explanation for the bone being in that location.

Anyone with information into Luke’s disappearance or activity within the wood is asked to contact Suffolk Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
