A SECOND man has died in just two weeks after apparently leaping from the Orwell Bridge.

A second man has died in just two weeks after apparently leaping from the Orwell Bridge.

Police officers were called by a member of the public at 8.52pm yesterday after they discovered the body of a man lying at the foot of the bridge just off The Strand on the Wherstead side of the River Orwell.

The man is believed to be in his 40s and from Cambridgeshire.

A doctor called by police declared the man dead at the scene.

Officers investigating what happened in the moments leading up to the tragic death are appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw a man on the bridge shortly before 9pm to come forward.

Police have informing the man’s next-of-kin.

The tragedy comes just two weeks after Tom Chick jumped to his death from the landmark bridge.

The youth group leader at St Matthew’s Church in Ipswich died on Sunday, July 4.

A former Holbrook High School and Ipswich School pupil and Durham University graduate, Mr Chick had been suffering depression.

Paying tribute to Mr Chick friends described him as a “lovely person” who had “a great passion for life.”

A member of Mr Chick’s youth group, who asked not to be named, said just days after his death: “I don’t want him to be another statistic of depression sufferers who commit suicide on that bridge.

“He was a quiet, intensive, lovely person, with a great passion for life.

“He tried so hard at life, I have never known anyone fight so hard.

“Tom will always be a source of inspiration, an example of devotion and zeal for the next step on your journey closer to Christ.”

The coastguard and the East of England Ambulance Service were not called to the scene.

The spokesman for Suffolk Police said: “We ask anyone who may have seen the anything at the time when the body was found to come forward with information.”
