An Ipswich man who downloaded more than 100 indecent images and films of children has been ordered to attend a sex offenders’ treatment programme.

Police officers discovered the indecent images on three devices in the bedroom and living room of Robert Casson’s flat, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Officers also discovered that Casson was growing 41 cannabis plants in another room in the premises.

Casson, 38, of Cemetery Road, Ipswich, admitted three offences of making indecent images of children and an offence of producing cannabis.

He was given a three-year supervision order and will have to attend a sex offenders’ treatment programme.

He was also ordered to do 120 hours unpaid work in the community and to pay £500 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

The court also ordered him to sign the sex offenders’ register and was made the subject
of a sexual harm prevention order for five years.

Matthew Sorel-Cameron, prosecuting, said police officers carried out a search of Casson’s flat on November 22 and seized computer equipment which was found to contain 28 indecent images and films of children at the most serious level A, 75 at level B and 31 at level C.

Forty- one cannabis plants were also found along with tents and filtration equipment in a bedroom.

Joanne Eley for Casson said her client realised he needed help. “He struggles to understand why he has been looking at these images,” Miss Eley said.
