An investigation has been started to find out how a skimming device came to be fixed to a petrol pump on the outskirts of Ipswich.

Staff at the Tesco petrol station in Martlesham Heath found a card reader had been tampered with yesterday at around 5.40pm.

The device was discovered when a driver asked for assistance because he was having trouble paying.

The pump affected was number 16 and it is thought the device could have been there for 24 hours.

Police will now examine the device found on the pump and review CCTV footage to find out how it came to be placed there.

And they are also urging shoppers, residents and drivers to be alert to similar scams.

It is possible other people may have had difficulty using the affected pump and anyone who thinks they may have been affected is urged to contact their bank to check for unauthorised transactions.
