Milsom Hotels’ Kesgrave Hall in Hall Road, Kesgrave, has submitted a planning application to Suffolk Coastal District Council to develop a health spa with five treatment rooms, visitor changing area, showers, indoor and outdoor lounge and cafe.

The hotel, which is part of the Milsom chain, previously submitted plans in 2014 to develop seven self-catering lodges on the 38-acre site, featuring en-suite facilities.

While those plans still haven’t been ruled out for the future, the business is looking to first develop the spa.

Paul Milsom, one of the owners of the Grade II-listed mansion, said: “It’s something that’s been on our agenda for some time, and we’ve been trying to develop the correct business to support that.

“We have got a small treatment base at our hotel in Dedham which has worked really well for us, so it was really an extension of that.”

The plans are currently in the consultation phase, but with planning permission having already been granted to build lodges in the same area, it is not expected to face any opposition.

If approved, the firm hopes to break ground next year and open in late 2018.

Mr Milsom added: “Kesgrave is a fantastic location, and it’s a really nice mix of business.

“It’s a country house hotel but it’s a bit looser than that as it’s great for afternoon tea, you can go for a drink and we have the Hanger there for events.

“The one thing we haven’t had is the spa treatment side and that’s a welcome addition to what we are doing.”

The development will mean people staying at the hotel can access nearby spa treatments, while those not staying at the hotel can equally use the facility without having to use the hotel.

The rooms will be designed as timber-built treatment spaces within the woodland itself.

Mr Milsom said the owners hadn’t ruled out building the lodges in the future, but the spa was the priority.

At least 10 jobs will be created from the new facilities.

The firm confirmed that if given the go-ahead, the work will not impact on the hotel itself, as the treatment rooms will be to the right of the hotel’s driveway.
