Police are appealing for witnesses after two women, both in their 20s, were robbed in central Ipswich.

The first incident, which took place last night, Thursday, August 9, happened at around 9.10pm on Cox Lane.

A woman in her mid 20s was walking along the street when two men approached her and attempted to steal her mobile phone.

During the struggle that ensued the woman was punched in the arm – but no injuries were reported.

The second incident took place on August 4, at around 6.15pm on Fore Street, near the waterfront.

A woman in her late 20s was walking near the University of Suffolk when she was approached by a group of three young men, one of whom was on a bike, who snatched her phone. Thankfully, the victim was not harmed.

The robberies are being linked to three previous incidents that have taken place in the last week.

Police are reminding members of the public to be aware and keep their valuables hidden from view where possible.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Constabulary said: “Potential thieves may use the ruse of asking for the time to strangers before snatching a mobile phone from the hands of the owner.

“These two incidents are being linked to three previous incidents that have taken place in the past week.

“Investigations are on-going into them with officers pursing a number of lines of enquiry, speaking to victims, and are also studying CCTV footage.”

Anyone who witnessed the incidents or has knowledge of them should contact Suffolk Constabulary on 101, quoting the relevant crime number reference.

Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
