Victor Covell-London felt the bee’s knees buzzing along the seafront in his 1939 Standard Flying 8 Cardinal.

My first car was a 1939 Standard Flying 8 Cardinal red rag-top.

The picture was of me at 17 or 18 years old. In summertime the top was folded back, the windscreen laid forward on the bonnet and my arm hanging out over the side of the cut-down doors.

I was wearing a red and black striped wind-breaker jacket with brass buttons, red and black striped jeans (remember those?) black shirt and white tie, Tony Curtis haircut and going up and down Great Yarmouth seafront, I thought I was the bee’s knees.

I also had a Standard 8 – a right rust bucket. Thanks for reminding me.
