My First Car: First Ford was pride of Anglia

06:41 28 February 2016

Steve Hobley

Steve Hobley's first car, a 1960 Ford Anglia 105E, had belonged to his father.

supplied

Steve Hobley spent many hours maintaining his late father’s Ford Anglia for happy family outings.

I bought my 1960 Ford Anglia 105E in 1969 from my mum for £100 – it took me two years to pay it off.

It had originally belonged by my dad who died in 1967 when I was 14. He had bought it from Cambridgeshire Motors in Elm Road, Wisbech, where he had worked. He then went self-employed as a mechanic.

He had a pit which I used to go down at weekends to do it up after he had died and spent many hours maintaining it. Many a happy hour was spent with family going to Clacton, Norwich, King’s Lynn and Hunstanton in this car.

I sold it for £500 but wished I had kept the number plate.

We want to hear the story of your first car – whether it was a classy classic or a more modern motor. Send your memories of the car with a picture of it to motoring@archant.co.uk
