A skimming device has been found on an ATM.

People withdrawing money have been urged to be vigilant after a “skimming device” was found on a cash machine in Needham Market.

A customer alerted staff at Barclays Bank in High Street to the device - used by criminals to capture data - on Wednesday.

The machine was shut down and CCTV was viewed, which showed a man with black hair removing the device at around 4.15pm that day.

Suffolk Constabulary has advised the public to take the following measures to protect against ATM fraud:

- Where possible, consider using ATMs inside banks rather than on the street

- Be aware of who is around you when withdrawing cash

- Inspect the ATM for any devices before inserting your card

- Cover the keypad when entering your pin

- If you suspect anything contact the police and the bank immediately

- Do not attempt to remove the device

- Report any suspected misuse to your card issuer immediately

Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour around the ATM or has information is asked to contact Pc Tina Fairness at Mid Suffolk South SNT on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
