The river is now host to the Hadleigh Duck and Raft Race. Teams usually take part in fancy dress and race to the finish line. A thousand ducks are then released, again aiming to cross the line first.

Last year, the River Brett at Shelley, near Hadleigh, the Environment Agency carried out a £15,000 project in partnership with landowners, Suffolk Wildlife Trust and the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) to improve the river.

Over an 800-metre stretch, the project involved flow deflectors, embankment lowering, pool-riffle creation. and tree planting.
