Pupils back to school St Matthews Ipswich September 1963

Archant

YOUNGSTERS can be seen running riot in the playground of St Matthew’s Primary School in Ipswich in this photo, taken in September 1963.

Were you a pupil at the time? Do you remember this picture being taken?

In the same year, Born Free actress Virginia McKenna at a fair held at the Baths Hall, Ipswich, in November. Do you remember the visit?

We also have photos taken at Westbourne School speech day in July 1963 amongst our latest collection from the Star archives. This latest sample - see gallery above right - were all taken in 1963, and are the earliest photos in our archive.

Other images show the mayor of Ipswich testing new telephones at the GPO and a meeting of Ipswich Boys’ Club in an old air raid shelter.

As ever, if you have any memories you wish to share with Star readers, drop us a line to sharon.clark@archant.co.uk.
