East Anglia’s best-known steam train, the Oliver Cromwell, has broken down near Diss on what should have been it’s last hurrah.
The ‘Britannia Class’ British Railways pacific locomotive was in the process of hauling a special train from Liverpool Street to Norwich and back as it’s final farewell before being retired.
But the train had a fault just outside Diss and now the rest of the route will not be completed.
Rail operator Greater Anglia is reporting delays on the Norwich to London line following the breakdown as no trains could get past the Cromwell.
A spokesperson from Greater Anglia said: “There are currently delays on the mainline following a steam train fault between Diss and Norwich.
“As a result the 14.00 Norwich-Liverpool Street service was started from Diss.
“Anyone who has been affected by the delays may be able to claim delay repay compensation.
“The main line is expected to be back to normal soon.”
