SUNDAY league footballers who became an internet sensation after playing in their pants have finally found a sponsor to buy a new kit.
Nearly 65,000 people watched a cheeky YouTube video of Ipswich Sunday League side Playford taking to the pitch in just their underwear, boots and shin pads.
The three-minute ‘No Sponsor, No Kit’ film, to the tune of LMFAO’s hit Sexy And I Know It, saw the Suffolk side receive interest from around the world.
Now online casino and sportsbook 138Sungame has stepped in to buy a new kit for the club.
Richard Jones, 27, Playford’s club captain, said: “We only did the video as a bit of a laugh but the response has been absolutely incredible.
“We had a few offers, including someone who wanted to buy us some new pants.
“It’s great that 138Sungame came forward and quite a relief to know we won’t be playing in our pants again.”
Daniel Stracey, 138Sungame commercial director, said: “We saw the YouTube clip and saw the funny side of it.
“We’re up for a laugh so wanted to get involved. We were happy to give the lads a new kit.
“They didn’t exactly look the part in their pants so we were delighted to cover them up.”
Playford, founded in 1998, play in the third tier of the Flowsports Ipswich Sunday Football League.
The Woodbridge-based team, which includes a delivery driver, students, a groundsman, an IT expert and insurance workers, was relegated by two divisions after a dismal 2010/11 season that saw them concede more than 100 goals.
But last season, they recovered to secure a third place finish in the fourth tier of the Ipswich league, securing promotion in the process.
This season, playing in their new gold and black strip, they have won their first two games.
