Police name man who died on A14 at Nacton as Alexander Dowds from Ipswich

Police have revealed further details of a fatal collision on the A14 at Nacton last night in which a pedestrian on the road was hit by a car.

Both police and ambulance crews were called just after 8.10pm yesterday to reports a man was on the eastbound carriageway of the A14 near to junction 57 at Nacton.

Officers are now able to name the man. Alexander Dowds, 32 and from Melrose Gardens in Ipswich, died at the scene.

The eastbound carriageway was closed between the Copdock and Seven Hills interchanges from 8.30pm yesterday evening and re-opened around 4am today.

A rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer and an ambulance were called out. It is understood an air ambulance was called but was stood down.

Re-issuing their appeal for witnesses this morning, police said the serious collision investigation team is now investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Anybody who witnessed the incident is asked to call the serious collision investigation team on 101 quoting CAD reference 389 of March 15.
