Detectives investigating the shooting in Bury St Edmunds last night have said they are seeking further suspects as they continue looking into the incident.

Three people, a 58-year-old man and two women aged 59 and 28 from Needham Market, were arrested in the early hours of this morning in connection with the crime.

They were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and remain in police custody where they are being questioned.

A man in his 30s, who is now stable in hospital, was shot in the stomach at Forum Court near the town’s railway station around 6.45pm.

And officers are also investigating the circumstances surrounding a burnt-out car discovered in Rushbrook Lane at 7.15pm yesterday.

They are trying to find out if this is linked to the shooting.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Caroline Millar, said: “Although we are still seeking suspects in connection to this incident, I would like to reassure local residents that we are not treating this as a random attack and therefore do not believe there is any threat to the wider public.

“Extensive police enquiries have been taking place since last night and we are following-up a number of leads to understand the sequence of events and to identify anyone who may be involved.

“I urge anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity at either Forum Court or Rushbrooke Lane yesterday evening to contact police as soon as possible.”

The East of England Ambulance Service sent a number of resources to the scene last night including the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).
