WHEN it comes to Christmas dinner, only mum’s will do.

Or so says Lee Moss, who loves his mother’s festive feast so much that he has it couriered almost 100 miles to him on a motorbike.

And the 33-year-old will still be sitting down to his specially prepared turkey and trimmings again this year – even though he is spending December 25 at his mother-in-law’s house in Bury St Edmunds.

Mr Moss, from Wagtail Drive, Bury, said the unusual tradition began when both he and his then heavily-pregnant girlfriend, Kelly, could not travel back to his parents’ home in Hounslow.

He added: “A couple of years ago, because of various reasons, I just couldn’t get home.

“It was the first time I had not had a big slap-up Christmas dinner with my mum. But then, just as we were sitting down to eat, a motorbike courier pulled up. I couldn’t believe it; we all thought it was funny. The potatoes were still crispy and every-thing. The only bad thing was, she had even put sprouts in.

“I heated it up in the oven and it was a real taste of home, it just tasted and made me feel like Christmas.”

Mr Moss, who is again staying in Suffolk with his son 20-month-old Cole, said although he loves his mother’s cooking, he will not be turning down his mother-in-law’s roast.

He added: “I won’t be snubbing my mother-in-law’s cooking, she makes a delicious roast, but it just would not be Christmas without my mum’s dinner.

“I will eat Christmas dinner with everyone. The courier will probably come in the afternoon so I will heat it all up and have it for supper. Everyone thinks it is funny. I don’t think anyone minds.”

Mr Moss’ mother Alison Johns said she was really pleased that her son still hankered after her cooking, even if it did spend two-and-a-half hours on the back of a motorbike. She said: “I sent it the first time as a bit of a joke, but he really enjoyed it. I’m glad that eating my Christmas dinner brings back happy memories for him.

“Maybe one day it will be him or Kelly sending Cole Christmas dinner on a motorbike.”

  • Does anyone else feel rather sorry for the poor courier who is missing out on his Christmas dinner, so this guy can enjoy two... doesn't seem very fair to me :-)
