Travellers using Ipswich Buses services were part of the national bus survey carried out by Passenger Focus in 2012.

Passenger Focus is the official, independent consumer organisation representing the interests of rail, bus, coach and tram users in England outside London.

Overall satisfaction levels for bus services were 84% nationally but better in Ipswich for Ipswich Buses passengers with a satisfaction rate of 86%. The value for money indicator in Ipswich at 58% was better than the national average of just 54%. The findings come despite routes being disrupted by roadworks associated with the Travel Ipswich programme across the town.

Managing director of Ipswich Buses Malcolm Robson said: “While the survey results are encouraging and show Ipswich Buses is getting it right most of the time we still recognise we have a lot to do to improve services.”

  • If Ipswich buses are doing so well, God help these that are not. In this town you can't get an Ipswich Bus off Gainsborough after 20.10 You can't get an Ipswich Bus out of the town centre after 23.00 No night services on the No. 2 route, no Saturday service on the No.2 route, no Sunday service at all. Why can't you get a Ipswich bus home from a night out in the town after 11.10 Clubs and pubs are now staying open longer, people are coming out later, so why can't we have a bus service that runs until midnight say? We all can't afford taxi.

  • I am still struggling to understand why, as a taxpayer in Ipswich, I need to own a bus company. Ipswich Buses needs to be privatised or sold to First Group as soon as possible and all public money should be diverted towards truly essential services.

  • Big Spot is absolutely right...the Poll is wrong! It can't change so drastically in such little time...unless only a few people have voted...or First have voted in envy of the better Operator!!

  • The people who rated Ipswich Buses as 'poor' in the survey really have no idea how good their local bus company is! Compared to places like Peterborough, where vast areas are covered by one route which attempts to cover an entire estate, Ipswich is really well served by its locally-owned, locally accountable bus company (which doesn't have to make the big profits some of the big bus groups, like First, do). While there's definitely room for improvement in improving evening and Sunday services (people's travel patterns are changing and aren't what they were 20 years ago) I genuinely think that whenever I visit my family in Ipswich that the Ipswich Buses service is far better than any other town in which I've lived.
