FOOTBALL fans gearing up for the next Town match this weekend are being offered a free pint before the game.
Ipswich Town Football club is launching Town Time at Saturday’s game against Sheffield Wednesday, giving the fans the chance to buy one pint and get one free.
Supporters who purchase a lager, bitter or cider in the concourse bars and Legends up to 30 minutes before kick-off will be given a voucher to purchase another pint any time before kick-off, or at full-time in the Legends bar only.
Legends will be open for one hour after the final whistle, with entry via gate 17.
Supporters can’t use their vouchers at half-time and the offer does not apply to hospitality areas.
Town Time will kick off at the Blues’ home game against the Owls on Saturday and will run until the match against Brighton on January 1.
The Star’s sister paper, the Evening News in Norwich, held a poll asking Norwich City fans whether or not they’d be happy to see the Blues relegated at the end of the season.
More than 2,000 people voted, with 1,341 people, or 65 per cent, saying they would be happy to see Town relegated.
What do you think about the free pint offer? Write to Your Letters, Ipswich Star, 30 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich IP4 1AN, or e-mail starletters@archant.co.uk

Only a business in such disarray as ITFC could take a supposedly generous gesture such as this and turn it into a cause of further alienation due to their poor organisation. I saw arguments breaking out as some bars only gave out vouchers if they were explicitly asked for, some tried to restrict them to one per round rather than each drink purchased and some others refused to honour the vouchers before the match, despite the only restriction being on not using them at half time. This while having to watch the worst performance in fifty years

The Ipswich STAR: 1. Has given what is basically a free ad to this drink promotion and so is encouraging it. I hope the same paper realises it is double standards when it starts to report on drink drivers. 2. Has tried to stir up trouble between fans by the nasty and unnecessary (as David White says) story about the vote on ITFC's relegation. So I hope the paper does not take a high-minded view when fans fight. Is this the sort of reporting we want for our local community?

I guess that's one way to get them in a good mood before the final whistle.

yea that will really cheers the fans that pay £600+ a year that have to buy a pint to get 1 free. After a disastrous start to the season Mr Clegg trys to mug the angry fan's even more with a "Kind" gesture that will make the club more money Sum how i don't think many fan's will be buying tickets next year.

Totally agree with lowestoftblue. Too much drink and football have been poor partners for years. ITFC's response..... let's get everyone more tanked up? It's really not good practice to encourage drinking especially as pointed out, this will put people over the drink drive limit. Poor judgement ITFC ..... again. We have enough bad publicity at present without this. Methinks I'll table a question at the shareholders meeting about it.

Pints make for rowdy supporters, not necessary bums on seats! bad luck if you happen to be a supporter who is a driver, female or a child.

lowestoftblue - you can't work that out? Buy a half, or but one pint and give the other to a mate...

So you've got to buy one to get another free, not good if you are driving. Surely two pints makes you over the drink drive limit? I think Mr Clegg is having a laugh, perhaps a better idea would be to give tickets away to Suffolk schools, get some fans for the future interested. Most who turn up will spend money on a program or something so the club still makes money. You never know if they enjoy they might come again and again, just a thought!

Why on earth have you Norfolk Journo's added a little paragraph about the Canaries voting for relegation? It has nothing to do with the article. It's just nasty, unnecessary cynicism from you lot across the boarder. Poor journalism, not needed!
