Cheers echoed round a Suffolk leisure centre as young swimmers competed to become champions of a primary school gala.

Alde Valley School invited eight partnership primary schools along to the local pool in Leiston for the event, which involved teams of children from Yoxford, Saxmundham, Leiston, Coldfair Green, Benhall St Mary, Bramfield, Kelsale, Snape, Aldeburgh, Middleton and Peasenhall.

Leiston and District Swimming Club helped out by providing equipment, including an electronic scoreboard for pupils to keep track of race results.

Alde Valley GCSE pupils kept time and lent support to the competitors, while PE teacher Danny Laws and his sports leader students helped by overseeing proceedings.

The overall winners were the team from Coldfair Green, who led the heats right up to the finals.
