For many decades Ipswich Airport played host to a number of skydiving and parachuting events before the last aircraft took off from the site in January 1998.

UK Parachuting, then known as Ipswich Parachute Centre, ran weekly jumps from the Nacton Road site before it relocated to Beccles Airfield, Ellough.

Among those who took part regularly were Ipswich Star readers Andy Page and Maureen Wright, who both completed multiple jumps at the site during the 1980s.

Andy worked at the centre and often performed tandem skydives with up to four people at once. Maureen was a regular jumper and completed over 500 dives at the airport.

The pair were inspired to share their photographs with us after we published a spread of nostalgic pictures of skydiving events at the airport on the Ipswich Star website last week.
