STAFF at a care home have been celebrating after receiving top marks from an industry watchdog.
Rendlesham Care Centre achieved the highest praise possible during its latest inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Various areas of the business in Suffolk Drive were scrutinised and assessed.
These included how well people were being treated with respect, quality of care, safety, staffing levels and management of the service. Other areas related to the provision of food and drink, cleanliness and the availability of medicines.
The home met the required standards in all of the areas – much to the delight of manager Bob Dawson.
“We are delighted that the hard work done each and every day by our team has been recognised through this positive report,” he said. “We have a tightly-knit staff unit here and we try to put the service users at the heart of everything we do.
“First and foremost Rendlesham is our residents’ home. It is a pleasure to provide a service for so many wonderful people, but it is always nice to hear that you’re getting things right.”
The visit from the CQC was part of a routine and planned inspection carried out earlier this year.
Officials observed how people were being cared for, looked at records of people who use services, talked to staff and chatted with those who use the home – including residents and their families.
The report reads: “We spoke with nine people who used the service who told us that they were consulted about the care that they were provided with and that their needs were met.
“People said that their choices were listened to including the food that they wanted to eat, how their personal care needs were met and the activities that they wanted to participate in.
“People also told us that the staff treated them with respect and that their privacy was respected. One person said: ‘We are well cared for, no staff abuse us and they (the staff) are all very kind.’
“People told us that the staff were attentive to their needs and that the staff responded for requests for assistance promptly.”
Rendlesham Care Centre provides nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 60 people.
It is run by the family-owned Caring Homes Group, which was founded in 1994 by mother and son team, Helena and Paul Jeffery.
