Surprise visit by school governor Doug Larkham who visited Ringshall School in a Sea King helicopter. His two children attend the school.

When school children finished their break early they did not expect to be visited by a Sea King helicopter.

But when they heard the machine’s large rotor turning, the pupils of Ringshall School looked up to see the bright yellow helicopter preparing to land.

Monica Gibbs, headteacher of the school near Needham Market, said the surprise visit was made possible by crew member and school governor Doug Larkam.

“It was fantastic, it was a really inspirational opportunity for the children – they have been writing about the visit– drawing pictures,” she said.

The crew from the helicopter, based at nearby Wattisham Airfield, spent 90 minutes with the pupils and school staff before they left.

Miss Gibbs added: “We are very lucky because the school takes pupils from the airbase and so we have got a very close link to the airfield. It was a special day for the school.”
