Race directors are reminding people of a series of road closures coming into force tomorrow as the Twilight 5k sweeps around Ipswich Waterfront.
With just 24 hours to go, participants are preparing to lace up their running shoes for the first ever standalone 5k event, which takes place throughout the afternoon.
Aimed at encouraging runners of all abilities, the popular road race will see several waves of people take in stunning views as they pound the streets for two laps of the Waterfront.
Businesses and people living in the area have been informed of road closures in advance – but now members of the public are being reminded of them as the countdown begins.
According to race director Carl Ashton, the closures will be in place from approximately 1.30pm until 7.30pm.
Routes such as Foundry Lane, Orwell Quay, Albion Wharf and Wherry Quay will be completely shut between those times.
Meanwhile, certain sections of Patteson Road, Coprolite Street, Ship Launch Road and St Peters Dock are also set to be closed for the duration.
Mr Ashton said: “We’ve tried to minimise disruption for the event as much as possible, and informed businesses as early as possible.
“We know it can be frustrating when the roads are shut, but signs have gone up well in advance.”
Surrounding main routes such as Duke Street and Key Street are expected to remain open.
Final preparations for the 5k extravaganza are under way, and race bosses want to personally thank dealership John Banks for their assistance.
They have supplied the lead car, which was presented to directors this week.
Kicking off the event at 1.45pm tomorrow will be the Daily Mile wave – around 300 schoolchildren are taking part.
This phase is part of a national initiative, backed by Suffolk County Council, encouraging children to run or jog for 15 minutes every day.
Half an hour later the Most Active County Family wave – which will see parents run with their children – sets off from The Mill.
Teams of three from local businesses are taking part in the ABP Business Challenge from 3pm, while at 4.45pm, the 5k wave begins at Regatta Quay for racers who will take 30 minutes or over to finish.
A second 5k wave for runners completing the distance in 20 to 30 minutes starts at 6pm, and elite athletes finishing in under 20 minutes set off at 7pm.
