Hard work by staff and students at a Felixstowe academy has seen a rapid improvement in standards, according to its latest Ofsted report.

Langer Primary Academy was inspected by Ofsted last month and was judged to be ‘good’ overall.

The previous inspection in January 2014 had found the school to ‘require improvement’.

Headteacher Elizabeth Bartholomew said the school was proud to have made consistent improvement over the last two years.

She said: “We are obviously delighted. All the hard work has paid off and this judgement means so much to the whole community... staff, pupils, parents and governors alike.

“We won’t stop here and our next steps are to build on what we have achieved and aim even higher!”

Chairman of governors Rev Robert Hinsley said: “The headteacher and all of the staff have worked incredibly hard to bring the school to this point and the recent Ofsted judgement of ‘good’ is testimony to this as well as their dedication and commitment.”

Langer Primary Academy, in Langer Road, is part of the Academies Enterprise Trust – as is the town’s secondary school, Felixstowe Academy – and became an academy in 2012.

The 166-pupil school was subject to an inspection by Ofsted in January 2014 and was rated as ‘requires improvement’ – prior to this the school had been in special measures since 2010.

The latest inspection report said “progress is rapidly improving for all groups of pupils” and “a large majority of pupils are making accelerated progress” and have very positive attitudes to learning and high expectations of themselves.

Progress of Year 1 pupils in phonics and students’ understanding of life in modern Britain were both described as exemplary.
