William Smedley died at the scene of the collision, near Rougham, which also claimed the life of fellow passenger Jake Paxton.

The 18-year-old’s family said: “(William) was a caring son, loving grandson, doting big brother, a loyal, kind, generous beautiful young man.

“Gone but never ever forgotten.”

Their tribute comes as police named Jake Paxton, also 18, as the second victim of the crash.

The teenager, from Bury St Edmunds, died in hospital from injuries he sustained in the collision, which involved a Ford Fiesta and a Vauxhall Corsa.

Emergency crews were sent to the scene, near junction 45 for Rougham, at 9.30pm.

Both Mr Smedley and Mr Paxton died as a result of the crash.

A memorial for both victims was held yesterday in Bury St Edmunds’ Arc shopping centre.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help with William’s funeral costs by close family friend Darren Flaum, who described the teenager as “a really good kid”.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta was also taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The female driver of the Vauxhall Corsa, a 19-year-old woman, was not injured.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the crash as an investigation into what happened continues.
