Leiston couple Alec and Diana Mayhew have praised neighbours and members of the community for their help in tracing Misty, four, and Dawn, seven, after the duo went missing on October 6.

Mr Mayhew, 67, said he was concerned for their welfare as they were hand-reared and do not know how to hunt in the wild on their own.

Thanks to the efforts of helpful neighbours, Misty was recaptured last Sunday.

But Dawn was still missing and Mr Mayhew’s fears were growing due to the high winds meant to batter Suffolk this weekend.

However, Dawn was recaptured after a dramatic rescue from a neighbour’s garden fence.

Mr Mayhew said: “I am overjoyed to have them both back. It was really worrying that she may have got blown away by the winds.

“One of our neighbours spotted her up a tree but we couldn’t find her as it was too dark.

“So I got up the next morning, tried to catch her in yet another tree but she flew across a housing estate.

“Luckily we then managed to catch her on a garden fence thanks to yet another neighbour letting us in.

He added: “I’m just so relieved they are home and very thankful.”
