It looks like landlords Mick and Linda Carter have looked beyond Albert Square to the Suffolk coast for a supply of Southwold’s finest.

Keen-eyed Eastenders viewers will have spotted a bottle of Southwold Bitter on one of this week’s episode as Danny Dyer’s character tended the bar.

Commenting on the brew’s arrival at the iconic watering hole, Sarah Fisk, of Adnams, said: “Adnams’ Southwold Bitter is not only one of the most popular beers in East Anglia, but also popular in the East End and throughout the UK.

“We’re delighted to have seen it appear and all I can say is that Mick Carter has definitely got good taste and obviously knows the importance of stocking good quality beers to keep his punters happy.”

  • Given the realities of modern TV production, I suspect it's more than likely that Adnams paid to have their beer appear in the programme. In which case, the extra free publicity is something of a bonus for them.

  • Given the chequered history of The Vic's landlords, landladies and customers, I just hope that the storyline doesn't call for someone to be bashed on the head with a handy bottle of beer, which just happens to be Adnams'.
