Southwold: Adnams supports Trinity House anniversary with limited edition of Lighthouse ale

Adnams is supporting the 500th anniversary of Trinity House by producing special limited edition bottles of its Lighthouse golden ale.

Trinity House, which looks after the safety of shipping and the well-being of seafarers, including lighthouse and pilotage services, traces its origins back to the granting of a Royal Charter by King Henry VIII to a fraternity of mariners known as the Guild of the Holy Trinity.

Its original purpose was to regulate pilotage but a century later it extended its safety role to include the provision of lighthouses, its first being built in Lowestoft in 1609.

Adnams’ Lighthouse ale is named after Southwold’s 102-feet-tall lighthouse which was built in 1889 and is now Grade II-listed. The limited edition features a special neck label design to mark the Trinity House anniversary.

Emma Hibbert of Adnams, which is a member of the EADT/EDP Top100, said: “Southwold lighthouse is such an important feature in the town, standing so proudly opposite the brewery and beside the Adnams Sole Bay pub.

“We were delighted when Trinity House approached us to produce limited edition Lighthouse bottles to celebrate their 500th anniversary.”

Paul Howe from Trinity House added: “Adnams and the lighthouse are so synonymous with the town of Southwold that the chance for Trinity House to work with Adnams during what is a very special year for us, was an opportunity not to be missed.”
