Dull and drizzly conditions early Saturday morning failed to cast a shadow over a popular country show, which attracted hundreds of visitors over the weekend.

The annual Mid and West Suffolk Show, held at Stonham Barns near Stowmarket, offered a great deal to tempt the crowds, ranging from the wide variety of trade stands and craft stalls to the impressive line-up of acts performing in the grand arena.

This included headliners, The Knights of the Damned, a colourfully-costumed team of stunt performers who thrilled onlookers with a choreographed display of medieval jousting.

Motor enthusiasts meanwhile were treated to an off-road 4x4 display and were able to browse at leisure a number of classic cars and steam engines on show.

Animal enthusiasts were also well catered for with an impressive routine by the canine stars of the Lowestoft Dog Display Team. And of course no country show in this part of the world would be complete without Suffolk Punches.

Those who wanted to take a more active part in the show were able try out activities ranging from archery to scaling a climbing wall and even scuba diving in a specially set up pool.

Traders, artists and charity stall holders also peddled their wares across the two days.

Show organisers have always shied away from commercialism and strive to uphold their aim of offering a fun family event showcasing groups, charities and produce from the local area wherever possible.

Event manager Michelle Phillips-Naylor said: “We had a steady stream of visitors across the weekend who all seemed to enjoy what turned out to be a very busy and action-packed show.”
