The accident happened just after 8pm on Satuday, when a silver Renault Clio was in collision with an electricity pole in Ixworth Road, Stowlangtoft, on the A1088. No other vehicle is believed to have been involved.

A doctor and critical care paramedic from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service emergency medical charity were mobilised to the scene to assist with the rescue.

A 25-year-old man who was a front-seat passenger suffered only minor injuries and was able to free himself from the wreckage. However, the 18-year-old female driver was trapped in the vehicle for around an hour and had to be released by fire crews.

One crew from Elmswell, a second from Ixworth and a rescue tender from Bury St Edmunds used hydraulic cutting gear to remove the roof of the car.

After being released, the driver was taken to the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds with suspected serious but non-life-threatening injuries to her chest and pelvis.

Meanwhile, just before 10.10pm, a fire crew from Felixstowe, another from Ipswich East and a rescue tender from Princes Street, Ipswich were sent to an accident on the A14 Eastbound at the Trimley St Mary junction.

Two vehicles were involved in a collision and fire crews had to use cutting gear and stabilisation to release one casualty, who was taken to hospital by ambulance.
