The organisers behind a new food and drink festival want “every corner” of their town to be filled with enticing produce as they look for stall holders to get involved.


StowFeast, supported by the East Anglian Daily Times and its sister title the Stowmarket Mercury, aims to repeat the success of last year’s car show which saw some 5,000 visitors come to Stowmarket.

Sharon Brown, manager of the main organiser of the event, Stowmarket Town Centre Partnership, wants to see the town bursting with produce grown and made across Suffolk and the region.

“This will bring benefits for businesses with large numbers of people coming into town and the likelihood is that people will see something they did not know was here and return to shop with us,” Mrs Brown said.

“Based on the successes of the car show, Christmas lights switch-on and other events we are expecting a large number of people.”

The event, which will run on August 3, is being organised in partnership with the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts, the Museum of East Anglian Life and St Peter and St Mary’s Church.

The Peel centre, in Church Walk, will be focusing on sustainable food, with the museum highlighting the range of local produce available.

The church is inviting people to its pop-up restaurant on the evening before the event.

Tom Barker, chairman of the Peel centre, said the event would be a “brilliant” boost for town.

“It’s great to work in partnership with other groups across the town in order to make the event possible and a success,” he said.

Shoppers with more exotic taste buds will be catered for with world food stalls set to broaden the cultural offer of the festival.

The town’s car show is also being prepared with the organisers seeking to bring more custom in to the town.
