A young man has described how he is “scared to leave the house” after he was attacked by a gang of youths.
Cory Godbold, 20, of Stowmarket, had been out in the town socialising with a male friend, 19, when he decided to head home on Saturday night.
But he was spotted by a gang of about 15 people who then started following the pair because they had been “staring at them”.
They were followed until they got to Recreation Road at about 2.40am when they were sworn at and attacked.
Mr Godbold, who works for a freight company in Claydon, said the group had been made up of people between the ages of 17 and 20.
He said: “They started punching us in the face and asked us for our mobile phones.
“There were two or three attacking. I got a black eye and a swollen jaw but they did not get my mobile phone.
“My friend was hit in the face several times.
“I was scared. You should be able to go out but I will probably not go out now they are hanging around. I want to do something about it but I do not want to drop to their level.”
The next day he visited Ipswich Hospital where a doctor examined his injuries.
Mr Godbold’s father, Mark, has written to Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore about the crime.
Mr Godbold added: “I feel scared to leave the house. I’m having to get on with my life and move on. It would be nice to have something done about it.”
An 18-year-old man, from Stowmarket, has been arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm in connection with the crime.
A 19-year-old woman, from Needham Market, has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm, also in connection with the crime.
Both have been bailed until September 11.
