The driver of a silver Toyota Corolla, a 62-year-old Wymondham man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

A 23-year-old Diss man, who was driving a silver BMW, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge.

The road at Stuston was closed for several hours as police investigated the tragedy, but it reopened early on Saturday morning.

Andy Mason, volunteer doctor and vice chairman of the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service, said he was faced with a “very confused scene” when he arrived to help.

“The incident was spread out over more than 100 metres from the first vehicle to the last,” he said.

“One driver was deceased, there was nothing that we could do for that person and all our attention was focused on trying to rescue the driver from the BMW.

“It took us quite a long time to extricate him for the wreckage.

“We called in an air ambulance from Cambridgeshire which flew to the scene.

“When we extricated him we stabilised him and he was taken to hospital.”

The lorry driver was also treated for shock.

Dr Mason praised the team work of the emergency service workers in the scene.

“Everyone worked extremely well together trying to save the life of the BMW driver,” he said.

An investigation is underway and police are asking anyone who may have seen the incident to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Suffolk Police by dialling 101.

Only yesterday, a motorcyclist was injured after colliding with an Audi on the same stretch of road.

  • So a death on the A140 doesn't even make headlines in the Evening Star?
